Jake the courier entered Normus Castle and was directed to the Chancellor’s office.  Chancellor Edwards bade him enter.  The courier told the Chancellor, “I have documents for you from Belok”.

Edwards said “Odd, I’ve never heard of the place.”

“It’s rather a small place on the other side of Mount Shareh.”

“Do you know what these documents are about?”

“No sir, I’m a lowly courier who is not informed on these matters.”

“Well, thank you.  I’ll look at it later today.”

The courier smiled and left.

On the way out, with no one around, he found a door where he expected it marked “Dungeon”.  He quickly picked the lock to the door and went down some steps to a caged animal that resembled a scaly cat with wings in both looks and size.  The animal said, “Man, am I glad to see you.  Can you get me out of here quick?”

“OK, but keep quiet until we’re well out of here.”

The pretend courier picked the lock to the cage and the animal named Darrel jumped in the courier case.  Darrel kept still and quiet on the way out and Jake didn’t encounter any problems leaving.

When the pair had gone a couple of miles and were on the other side of a hill, Jake let Darrel out of the case.  Jake told Darrel “If they figure out what happened, and you get a chance, fly away before anyone sees you, and I’ll just act dumb.”

“Sounds like a plan.  I owe you big.”

“Listen buddy, I’m just evening up.  Remember when we were captured by the band of robbers?  They couldn’t get away fast enough when you singed about ten of them with your breath of fire.”

“I guess you are right, but how did you know I was captured by that gang of bigots at the castle?  They told me how happy they were to capture a little dragon, like I’m not a real dragon.  They were clever. They got me in a fireproof bag, and never got close enough to my cage to get burned.”

“They let everyone for a journey of five days know that they’d found a ‘midget dragon’.  I hadn’t seen you for a couple of days, so it had to  be you.”

“Everything cool with your girl Helen?  Did she object to the plan?”

“Yeah, she loves you like I do and was definitely down for your rescue.”

“I got an idea, Jake.  Maybe you and I can double date.  I’ve been seeing Jezebel.”

“Darrel, you got another queen?  Man I don’t know how you get so many girlfriends.  I don’t even know how it works between a real cat and a small dragon.”

Darrel just smiled and giggled.
