Here is a source for somebody’s idea of the greatest 100 rock instrumentals https://digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_rockinst.html
#1 is Honk Tonk – odd that it isn’t on either cd.
Two Pacific Northwest groups were big in intrumentals:
The Ventures – Wipe Out, Secret Agent Man, Wailin’, Hawaii Five-O and hundreds moe
The Wailers – Wailin’ (again), Soul Long (very short groove)
Pre Rock 1949-1955 artists the period that I was mostly exposed to parent’s radio
Favorites most of which are from this era
Frankie Laine – That’s My Desire, Mule Train, The Cry Of The Wild Goose, Jezebel, That’s My Desire, We’ll Be Together Agan (also Billie Holliday and Frank Sinatra) – saw him well past his peak in 1990s California
Nat King Cole – Nature Boy, Unforgettable, Route 66, Send For Me, The Christmas Song, and Gee Baby Ain’t I Good To You (also Billie Holiday, Louis & Ella) – a favorite of my parents and I. They saw him live.)
Vaughn Monroe – Racing With The Moon (I remember this for some reason. When I started collecting music in 2007, I particularly wanted this one. Didn’t know what the first word was.), Riders In The Sky (fond of several versions)
Ray Anthony – Dragnet, Peter Gunn (I prefer the Duane Eddy Version)
Jo Stafford – You Belong To Me, Make Love To Me
Percy Faith – Delicado
Johnny Ray (local guy) – Just Walking In The Rain, Cry (I led the singing of this on a hike – fortunately not recorded), The Little White Cloud That Cried
Perez Prado – Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White
Al Hibbler – Unchained Melody
Tennessee Ernie Ford – Sixteen Tons
Judy Garland – The Man That Got Away (Rainbow too early)
The Chordettes – Mr. Sandman
Perry Como (these are a little early, but they are a part of my childhood) – Temptation (good cover by the Everlys), Prisoner Of Love
Les Paul and Mary Ford – How High The Moon, Whispering, The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise, Lover
Rosemary Clooney – Come Ona My House (saw her at the Gresham Oregon jazz festival when she was in poor health ca year 2000)
Tony Martin – Kiss Of Fire, another one I remember vividly
Peggy Lee – Why Don’t You Do Right (also Ella Fitzgerald), Manana
Ella Fitzgerald – Really started to appreciate this artist more the last few years – Midnight Sun, Tenderly, Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea, Moonlight In Vermont
If you want to do your own research for this era internet search for The Hit Parade” for appropriate hits, or an artist.
